Backyard Visit. A poem by Kathryn Ann Hill

Three dark-haired ladies sit in a triangle;
their chairs are spaced a good nine feet apart.
These women, are they friends or are they sisters
who gather here to have a heart-to-heart?

They talk in candlelight and then they giggle,
they chuckle and they laugh and laugh some more.
I hear them from my front porch where I’m reading,
and close my book to listen as they pour

their gentle joy of life and sweet affection
through masked mouths and their smiling eyes above:
God give them unveiled face time in the future;
God bless them for their wholesome cautious love.
